The Metropolitan was built by the Austin division of the British Motor Corporation at Longbridge, Birmingham between October 1953 and April 1961, in both hardtop and convertible body styles. Although nearly 100,000 were built, about 95% were exported, mainly to North America. By the time the first Mets arrived in America, Nash had merged with another independent auto maker, Hudson. Mets were badged as either Nashes or Hudsons, depending upon which dealer sold them.
